Starting out as a New Party Plan Consultant?

By Margaret Furnace

You have decided to become a Party Plan Consultant

When starting out in a party plan, whichever company it is you must enjoy what you are selling, if you are tossing up between a few companies, my suggestion would be to take a catalogue from each company and talk to your friends to see what woul dbe the most popular one. If you get alot of interest from friends for one type of Party Plan, book them in for a showing, but make it 3 - 4 weeks, so this gives you enough time to get your kit and be ready for the shows.

If you have the finances, I would buy a bottle of wine, a couple of glasses and a box of choccies, wrap it up in pretty shiney paper, and raffle off to the first 10 people that book a party with you. My experience is usually this will cost you abotu $15 - $20. A good investment for your new business.

Print out some flyers on the computer, and put in your local shopping centres, place of work if you have employment and if not ask friends to put it up for you, hit the sporting centres as well.

There are some popular games to play, but I found when I was starting so it helped me learn the prices of the products. I did a guessing game, selected 3 products throughout the show and asked for the first person to say the price got a choice of a card. The cards had on them discounts from about $2 to a major one of $10. It is quite popular and it is still going 12 months after I started. My new consultant is now playing the game. v If you are finding it hard to get bookings try a fundraiser, approach your local kindy, day care or primary school and offer to do a fund raiser for them. The best way to do it would be to pass a catalogue around unless a specific show was wanted and maybe from whom are there raffle off the hostess benefits, and donate 10% of your comission for them to spend on an item/s plus the normal hostess benefits, they can then use those gifts for a raffle. My suggestion would be to use the fund raiser as a last resort if you are just starting, but what a better way to raise up the parties.

Try and get to trade nights or market nights, if you know of any that are going. It is great advertising for you and some are as cheap as $5 but they can get up into the hundreds. Just chose for your business first the more expensive ones can come later.
